The Retail Lifestyle experiments: Nordstrom tries on Bonobos for size

Andy Dunn’s Bonobos got paid cash of $16.4 mln to sell his clothes in 100 on ground Nordstrom stores (the ol’ Bricks ‘n’ Mortar) for advising the luxury chain departmental stores on email and online branding campaigns

The other Jamie, Jamie Nordstrom, decided to press home the advantages of expansion online in the chain his great-grandfather founded a 111 years ago with a deal with Bonobos

Earlier, Walgreen cemented its brick and mortar buys with an online purchase for a massive $409 mln and Walmart paid $300 mln for Kosmix.

The Nordstrom purchase thus looks like a bargan in which both sides will be testing waters than taking a full-on commitment. Other qventures have failed before, notaably Barnes and Nobles and Borders desire to go online to compete with Amazon, while Aladdin was returned to its Chionese ownership by Yahoo even as Yihodian stays under Walmart ownership. How exactly is the marriage going to work?

Linsanity for example, could have been much mor than aMadison square watchword in March but apparently still alive in offline stores..
